fabulous creatures (2014)
Fabulous Creatures is a brand new musical comedy cabaret fairytale in four part harmony by The Ruby Dolls. It previewed at Riverside Studios in London and premiered at The Edinburgh Festival at Assembly Checkpoint 31st July - 25th August 2014. It was then included in The 'Calm Down Dear: Festival of Feminism' at Camden People's Theatre in London
When close-harmony singers The Ruby Dolls try to update Mansfield Park, their characters get out of hand, and Fanny Price ends up in an internet-voted talent search for goat-people – The Great British Goat Off! For all those who’ve found themselves in a competition they never wanted to enter – with rules which make no sense and everyone judging.
With an original score by Benjamin Cox lyrics by comedian & writer Abigail Burdess and directed by the award-winning Dominic Burdess this darkly comic tale, told through close part harmony, and including body percussion, puppetry, dance and integration of live musical instruments, is our most ambitious to date.
The Research & Development phase of this project was supported by Arts Council England.
